ABSTRACT
In this study, the trend of decabromodiphenyl-ether (DeBDE) demand in vehicles and its disposal in end-of-life vehicles (ELV) are estimated using the past field measurements of DeBDE in automobile shredder residue (ASR), statistical data from vehicle markets and some essential assumptions. Annual DeBDE demand in vehicles decreased from 132 to 81 tonnes as the total domestic DeBDE demand declined from 1,800 to 1,100 tonnes in FY2005-2010. In the same period, the DeBDE disposal attributable to ELVs in domestic waste streams was estimated to decline from 202 to 131 tonnes. As of FY2010, DeBDE flow in ELVs was predicted to be approximately 161 tonnes, which incluedes 131 tonnes (81%) treated in domestic flow and 30 tonnes (19%) in foregin flows.
