Introduction

Atmospheric concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were measured au urban location in Kyoto, Japan, during 2000-2001 and 2012-2013. The observations are compared with annual monitoring data for PBDEs during 2009-2012 (Japan Ministry of Environment: MOE) to identify the temporal trend of those compounds in air, with an emphasis on seasonal changes and homologue profile distributions. The findings are expected to inform future work on modeling the likely emission sources and thus assist in identifying remedial measures. In addition, dry deposition velocities of individual PBDE homologues and fugacity of air-soil exchange for PBDEs and PCBs are calculated in order to verify the monitoring results.
