Emission factor for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from PCB waste storage sites

Introduction: In Japan, PCB waste is treated and destroyed in accordance with the PCB Special Measures
Act enacted in 2001. Japan aims to achieve proper treatment of PCB waste by 2027. To evaluate the
effectiveness of PCB waste treatment, it is necessary to quantify the reduction in PCBs released to the
environment from volatilization and leakage from PCB waste storage sites. In this study, we estimated
an emission factor for PCBs from waste storage sites.
