Introduction: Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) were listed in Annex A as a group of new persistent
organic pollutants in Stockholm Convention in 2017. Under the framework of environmental monitoring, the
Japan Ministry of Environment (JMOE) has monitored SCCPs in environmental media including the atmosphere (2016−2017), surface water, and sediment (2017)1. The arithmetic mean and geometric mean of the total SCCP concentrations (sum of four homologues) in air were 1,409 pg.m−3 and 1,012 pg.m−3, respectively. In this study, we aim to elucidate the key parameters that affect the atmospheric concentration of SCCPs.
